Choosing to Believe

Choosing to Believe

Here at conquering life we often talk about locus of control, which refers to our sense of power, and whether it’s internal or external. Having an internal sense of control is essential because it means that we as individuals are aware of our own power, in our own lives. What I’ll be discussing in this week’s blog is how spirituality in this context has been questioned. Some people suggest that things such as having faith or enjoying astrology instantly implies that one is external. I am not a religious person but I definitely identify as being spiritual, I believe in the Universe and the power that exists in energy and nature, and I also identify as being an internal person. So the question is, is it possible to be both?

The other day, a friend helped me do a tarot card reading with some beautiful cards I picked up in London. While looking up the meanings, and giggling about the potential interpretations in reference to my life, I was struck by how much really comes to choice. Even in the card explanations it was constantly mentioning that you have to be aware and open to the possibilities that lie in your future. Believing in something more doesn’t take away our power it just means that we must work to keep our perspectives healthy. Believing doesn’t make you external, it’s believing that no power lies within ourselves that makes us external. Coming to spiritual matters as an internal person is incredible because it can feel like we’re just tapping into the power of the world. We don’t lose the sense that we are in control and responsible for our lives rather we find that our power is connected to everyone’s power.

Like I said, it all comes to choice, we get to decide how much power we allow our believebeliefs to hold. While I enjoy reading about the personality traits of Virgo and how compatible she is with Cancer, while keeping one particular Cancer in mind, that doesn’t mean I’d ever allow it to have a say in my life. Just because Virgos have a tendency to be critical doesn’t mean that they are or that I have to be. I choose what I take from these things and I choose to take power. I believe that things happen for a reason, not so that I can shirk responsibility but so that I take every experience as a lesson and I look to learn from everything that happens in my life.

The most important belief we should hold is first and foremost belief in ourselves. Knowing we have this enormous power can be frightening at first or even unbelievable, but once we accept it, we can do amazing things and find inner security. Never let anyone tell you that your beliefs make you external but just as importantly never let your beliefs allow you to lose the connection to your own inner power. Here at Conquering Life, we want to see people become happy, secure and powerful and we know that everyone has their own path for reaching that, we’re here to make sure that the path is of your own construction.
